39th Street Bits and Pieces Hats off to Ted
Larkin and Bob Klemovec for a nice “Art Festival” this year. Even
though it rained in the middle of the day only a few artists left. Those
that stayed were pleased. Nearly all the artists stated they had made back
their entry costs - plus! They indicated they wanted to be included in
next year’s festival. The time is not yet
determined, but the Q’Doba building on the corner of 39th and State Line
will be torn down. Possible plans are to rebuild with a multi level
structure to include condos and a mall???? Addis Ababa is out
and Spit Fire is in its place. Circe is now Po’s Dumpling Bar. The
Harvey Girls Gallery is gone. Angie’s
Ice Cream is now Big Lick Dairy and Dog. A Nail Spa is soon opening next
to Big Lick. Miami Ice is a bright spot on the corner of Genessee. Once in
a Blue Moon is open next to the Pet Store. A new retail space Fabuless!
has opened next to Revue. And Macaluso’s is now Scotty’s. MissKnits is
around the corner on Mercier. Down the street by Pangea is Vestor
Chiropractic and Bikram Yoga. Saigon 39 is still closed and the Westport
Maytag laundry is closed temporarily for equipment upgrade. The wheels of
progress grind exceedingly slow. We finally have City funding for the
first phase of the pedestrian lighting project. We had hoped to have it
done this year but it now looks like completion should be some time in
2008. Contact Lucie at (816) 561-1859 or email
