39th Street Bits and Pieces An important step has been taken in
the Streetscape Project for 39th Street. The first phase of this project
will add pedestrian lighting on both sides of 39th Street from State Line
Road to Mercier Street. Surveyors finished last week. With this
information plans will be made and submitted to Public Works for review. There will be a general meeting for
all 39th Street merchants to attend on October 18th, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. in
the Center for Spiritual Living at 1306 W. 39th Street. The tree wells which were installed
last year were never finished. Now we’ve found a crew that will get rid
of the weeds and put down weed barrier. Mulch will then be put in the
wells and the weed problem will be gone. Also, we are having three new
Ginkgo biloba trees installed where they’re now missing. This tree
species can be traced back 300 million years! For all those who aren’t already
caring for the area in front of your business please take the time to have
the weeds in the cracks killed or removed and sweep up the litter and
cigarette butts regularly. Maybe some areas would benefit from cleaning
with a hose. It’s your business! It’s nice to see that Saigon 39 is
opening again. New stores are open. There Deborah’s at 904 W. 39th owned
and operated by Deborah Richardson. And Hairlines at 902 W. 39th owned and
operated by Ms Donna. Wink at 1415 W. 39th owned and operated by Elizabeth
Rich. And C&B Candles is at 809 W. 39th -2A owned and operated by Bill
and Christy Thomas and partner Jim Sager. New signage is up at 3906 Summit
- Mama’s 39th St Diner. The Westport Maytag Laundry is back and Zaki’s
is vacant. Mark your
calendar for the General Meeting
